Solar
Generate more of your own electricity.
Daylight covers the part of your bill that daylight can. What that is worth depends on how much you use, when you use it, and which utility reads your meter.

Four questions: where you are, how much electricity you use, what you are trying to achieve, and whether you want backup. You see the result before we ask who you are.

A battery is about continuous output and usable capacity, not headline kilowatt-hours. Which circuits you want covered decides the equipment before price enters it.

Generate in daylight, hold the surplus, draw it back in the evening. The two products answer different questions, and together they answer a third.

Solar, storage and the grid are not three purchases. They are one system with a priority order, and almost every confusing number in a solar quote comes from missing it.
Outages happen in Florida, and a battery can carry selected circuits — or a whole home, depending on how the system is designed and what your panel supports.
How long it lasts is a function of what you choose to run, not a number a website can tell you. That is why our battery calculator asks you which loads matter instead of printing an hours figure.
Service territories do not follow city limits, and the rules differ sharply. Investor-owned utilities operate net metering under Florida PSC Rule 25-6.065. Municipal utilities and cooperatives set their own programmes, so two homeowners with identical roofs can face genuinely different economics.

Worth knowing first
The 30% federal Residential Clean Energy Credit ended for systems placed in service after 31 December 2025. A great deal of solar content still assumes it exists, which makes every payback figure built on it wrong by roughly a third of the system cost.
What changed, and what Florida still offersUsually yes. Whether it is simple or expensive depends on your existing inverter and whether the battery is AC-coupled or DC-coupled.
No. Florida law prevents a homeowners association or deed restriction from prohibiting solar. What an HOA can still decide, what it cannot, and the 45-degree rule that decides who wins an argument about roof placement.
How to decide, using the number that actually matters: remaining roof life against the 25-year life of the array. Plus what removal and reinstallation costs you if you get the order wrong.
Yes. A home battery is permitted electrical and often structural work, not an appliance you plug in. What the permit covers, why the inspection matters, and what an unpermitted install costs you later.
Usually yes, and in Miami-Dade or Broward almost certainly. What the letter actually certifies, who is allowed to sign it, and why a generic one gets rejected.
No. Florida Statutes §212.08(7)(hh) exempts solar energy systems and their components from Florida sales and use tax.
Installing storage on its own gives you backup without a roof project. What it does, what it cannot do, and when it is the right order to do things in.
How to plan backup power for a Florida home before hurricane season: what to back up, how batteries and generators differ, and what to decide before the storm forms.
How to decide whether your Florida roof should be replaced before an array goes on it, and what removal and reinstallation costs if you get the order wrong.
