Privacy policy

What does Helio41 do with my data?

We collect as little as possible. You can use the whole site, including the estimator, without giving us any personal information. If you ask us to send you an estimate or arrange a quote, we collect your email address and any details you choose to provide, and we use them to do that.

Who we are

Helio41 Energy operates helio41.com, a site that helps Florida homeowners work out what home solar and battery storage would mean for their house. We are the controller of the personal information described below. To reach us about anything on this page, write to hello@helio41.com.

What we collect

  • Information you give us: an email address, and anything you add when requesting a quote.
  • Estimator inputs: the city and electricity usage you enter. These are processed to produce your result.
  • Analytics: which pages you view, in what order, how long you stay, which campaign or referrer brought you here, your approximate country, and whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer.
  • A visitor identifier: a random number stored in a first-party cookie so we can tell that a return visit next week is the same person as this one. It is not linked to your name or email unless you choose to contact us, and it is not shared with anyone.

How to turn analytics off

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we record nothing at all and set no identifier. Several browsers and extensions send Global Privacy Control by default. You can also opt out directly at /api/events/?optout=1, which clears the identifier and stops any further recording.

We never store your IP address. Your approximate country comes from our hosting provider, which derives it without passing the address to us, and there is no field in our records that could hold one.

How long we keep it

Analytics records are deleted after 400 days. That is enforced by a scheduled job that deletes them, not by a promise in this document.

What we do not do

  • We do not load third-party advertising trackers on this site today.
  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We do not accept electricity bill uploads yet, because the secure storage for handling them is not in place. When that changes, the retention and deletion terms will be set out here first.
  • We do not publish or index anything containing your personal data. Customer-specific estimate pages are excluded from search crawling.

Why we are allowed to collect it

  • To do the thing you asked for. If you request an estimate, we use your email address to send it. This is the only reason we ever need your email.
  • To understand which content is useful. Analytics tells us which pages answer a homeowner's question and which do not, which is how the site improves. This is a legitimate interest, and it is the interest the opt-outs above exist to override.
  • To meet a legal obligation, where one applies. We keep records of consent for marketing contact because the basis for contacting someone should be evidenced, not assumed.

Who else sees it

Three companies process data on our behalf, each for one purpose and none of them for their own:

Vercel
Hosts the site and serves every page. Processes request data, including IP addresses, in the ordinary course of serving a website. Also provides aggregate, cookieless traffic counts.
Neon
Provides the database holding analytics records. Contains no name, email address or IP address.
Resend
Sends email. Receives your email address and the content of the estimate we send you.

If you ask us to arrange a real quote, we share the details necessary to produce it with a licensed installer, and we tell you when that happens rather than doing it silently. Nobody else receives your information. We do not sell it, and we do not trade it for anything.

Your rights

Whatever state or country you are in, you can ask us to do any of the following, and we will do it within 30 days at no charge:

  • Tell you what we hold about you.
  • Give you a copy of it.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete it, including your entire analytics history. This is a single operation for us, not a manual search, so there is no reason for us to resist it.
  • Stop using it for analytics, which you can also do yourself, immediately, using the opt-out above.

Email hello@helio41.com. We will not ask you to create an account or justify the request. If you are in Florida, the Florida Digital Bill of Rights may give you further rights; if you are in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut or a state with comparable law, so may that. We do not treat those as separate processes — the list above is what we will do for anyone who asks.

Children

This site is for homeowners making decisions about a property. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS only. Access to the analytics data and the internal dashboard requires a password held by a small number of people. The most useful security measure here is the amount of data that does not exist: no passwords, no payment details, no documents, no IP addresses, and no electricity bills.

Changes to this policy

When our practice changes, this page changes first and the date below changes with it. We updated it when we introduced the visitor identifier described above, rather than afterwards. If a future change materially affects what we do with information we already hold, we will say so here in plain terms rather than reissuing the document and hoping nobody rereads it.

Common questions

Do you use cookies?

Yes, two, both first-party. One holds a random visitor identifier so we can recognise a return visit; one marks the current session and expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. Neither is shared with any other company and neither can follow you to other websites. No advertising trackers are loaded, and if that changes we will ask first. To switch both off, see "How to turn analytics off" above.

Can I use the estimator anonymously?

Yes. The full result appears before any request for contact details, and you are free to stop there.
